The park features wide-open spaces with plenty of areas to sit and relax. It’s a family-friendly spot with picnic areas, making it a great place to spend the evening.

9. Stokes Hill Wharf

If you’re a history lover or just want a unique sunset experience, head to Stokes Hill Wharf. Offering fantastic views of Darwin Harbour, this spot is rich with history, as can be experienced at the RFDS Darwin Tourist Facility (Royal Flying Doctor Service).

Watch the boats sail past as the sky turns into a dramatic canvas of colour. It’s a beautiful place to reflect, explore the local history, or enjoy a meal at the nearby restaurants.

This is also where many of the Darwin harbour cruises depart on their nightly route to witness the greatness that is a Darwin sunset. We highly recommend the Cape Adieu luxury cruise or the Spirit of Darwin for a special sunset cruise memory.

3. Nightcliff Foreshore

The Nightcliff Foreshore is a favourite amongst those who love an evening stroll, a laid-back atmosphere or even an evening workout. Spanning a 2.5-kilometre scenic walking/cycling path and having a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere, this spot also offers expansive views of the coastline, making it a popular place to nestle in for sunset.

Food trucks are dotted all the way along the foreshore, providing much-needed sustenance to the hoards of people enjoying the five-kilometre round trip along the walking/bike path.

There’s heaps to choose from each night of the week, including Thai food, burgers, fish and chips, woodfired pizzas, smoothies, jacket potatoes and the ever-popular Darwin market food institution Ken’s Crepes. There really is something for everyone.

2. Mindil Beach

Coming in at second place by a mere one vote, Mindil Beach is perhaps the most iconic Darwin sunset spot. Famous for the bustling Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, which operate every Thursday and Sunday throughout the Dry Season, this beach is always buzzing with energy at sunset, especially.

Bring a picnic, or grab something from one of the market food stalls, and enjoy the show. It’s not unusual to hear applause from the hundreds of viewers as they watch the sun go down into the Arafura Sea—and we don’t blame them. It’s quite the spectacle.

1. Fannie Bay

Many people chuckle at the utterance of this Darwin suburb’s name, particularly due to the fact that a main road called Dickward Drive leads to it (gasp).

However, contrary to the idea, its namesake isn’t a euphemism for one’s bottom; it was actually named after Fannie Carandini, a famed opera singer of the 1840s. Founder George Goyder had seen her perform in Adelaide shortly before commencing his expedition to establish the settlement of Port Darwin and promptly named the coastal area after her.

A short drive from the heart of Darwin city, Fannie Bay has been voted by locals as the number one perfect place to catch a serene sunset. Known for its beautiful stretch of beach and peaceful surroundings, it truly is a fantastic spot to relax and watch the golden hour unfold. A perfect blend of nature and tranquillity.

Fannie Bay is also home to three legendary clubs dedicated to all things waterside: the Darwin Trailer Boat Club, Darwin Sailing Club and Darwin Ski Club. Each of these clubs, in their own right, is renowned as hosting the best sunset views in all of Darwin.

What are you waiting for? Make your way to the waterside and see for yourself why these 10 places were voted best sunset spots in Darwin!
