Welcome to the thrilling adventure of exploring Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park, nestled in the heart of the Northern Territory. Join me as I hit the road from Brisbane for an epic solo adventure through stunning landscapes and picture-perfect nature views!
Solo Road Trip from Brisbane to Uluru and Kings Canyon
Setting off from Brisbane, I started my solo road trip to conquer Uluru, a natural wonderland and Kings Canyon, one of the crown jewels of Watarraka National Park. The allure of adventure and the promise of untouched beauty lured me into the rugged landscapes of the Northern Territory. It had taken me three days with overnight stops to reach the heart of Australia, but let me tell you how incredible it has been seeing the landscape changing and experiencing the true ‘outback’.
After spending a memorable two nights at Uluru, it was time for Kings Canyon.
Guide to Kings Canyon Rim Walk
After a scenic drive from Uluru, I set off early at about 5 am and arrived at the Kings Canyon car park. I was eagerly prepared to tackle the iconic ‘Rim Walk’. I decided to start early, at about 7 am, to beat the scorching heat and avoid track closures, which generally happen around 11 am in summer. As I began to walk, I felt ready to immerse myself in the wonders of this ancient canyon—or should I say ancient lost city?Follow Us

The 500 Stairs and Incredible Views
The climb began with a heart-pumping ascent up the 500 stairs (they weren’t kidding), but the incredible views of the surrounding canyons made every step worthwhile. During the trek, I made sure to drink plenty of water. After about 15 minutes, I had finally conquered the stairs, and I was welcomed with incredible 360-degree views of the canyons, with the sun casting its glow over the rugged terrain. It was now time to walk through the canyons!
Walking Through Time
As I started navigating Kings Canyon’s towering cliffs and rugged terrain, I felt like I was transported back in time. The sheer magnitude of the ancient rock formations and the beauty of the landscape left me in awe of Mother Nature. As I explored, I remembered all the fascinating stories about how these rocks were formed and shaped over millions of years.
The ‘Garden of Eden’ Detour
As I continued through the canyons, a slight detour from the main track led me to the enchanting ‘Garden of Eden’. This felt like a hidden oasis nestled within the heart of the canyon. It was fascinating to see how lush the vegetation is by the waterhole compared to the harsh environment above. It was a much-needed break from the sun and an excellent time to get a bite. Having the entire Garden of Eden to myself meant I could close my eyes and experience the sound of birds and the wind blowing through the trees – very refreshing! The Descent
After hours of exploration and adventure, I completed the hike and returned to the car park around 10:30 am. As I bid farewell to Kings Canyon, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the experience and seeing these incredible landscapes first-hand.
